Hudders at Barnsley in 86/87 (?) Empty Hudders at Barnsley in 86/87 (?)

    Alright lads,
Any of you lot attend this one? I wasn't there for this one but a couple of mates reckon Hudders had possibly one of their best firms at Barnsley out that day. I think you had to win to avoid relegation and there'd also been some shenanigans at Darton?

Also..... any of you lot remember the pre-season game in 82/83? We had about 35 lads turn up early doors, and if memory serves me right there was a bit of mither close to a market on a hill (?). Later on we popped into the Spinners' Arms and that was quite eventful.

My first memory of travelling to Leeds Road was as a 10-year-old in 1976 when we won 2-1 and i seem to recall a load of Huddersfield fans charging across the pitch towards the Bradley Mills. I was in the Cowshed, with my cousin and his two mates for some reason. The bus journey home was extremely eventful with possibly Hudders having the upper hand on the top deck. the following year was the same with plenty of Barnsley fans coming unstuck in the bus station after the game. Another memory..... 78/79 season, and a few Hudders having it with the police in the Spion Kop. I'm sure there was summat in the Barnsley Chronicle about 3 Old Bill being injured in that one.

Hudders at Barnsley in 86/87 (?) Empty Barnsley 86-87

Post  Out of Town Sun Feb 22, 2009 10:33 am

train load 80-90 went via Wakey, rumours of Barnsley being there turned out to be false, split up as usual then stayed too long ended up catching train perhaps 2.30 out of Wakey. One lad then decides to nick the guards metal brief case containing the takings and fling it out the door, train driver halts the train at Darton and calls the police, refusing to go on till we're off and the case is recovered.

Fuck it we'll walk went then!!!

2 mins later and dragged out over 1/2 mile unanimous decision walking aint the thing for us after a luchtime scoop, first few buses whizz past refusing to stop. Then managed to pull everyone together and how we hid 88 behind a wooden bus shelter I'll never know, while 2 flagged it down, must have been 1 of the 2 cos I was the only fucker who paid while everyone piled on.

Arrived Barnsley bus station about 3.10 jumped off, caught a good dozen or so Barnsley lads loitering the station and legged them right up into town, police called from ground rounded everyone up and in about half 3, met up with loads more had gone on a less uneventful mode of transport.

Think that was the game Duncan Shearer made his debut and bagged a hatrick to win 3-0 or 3-1 but we were shite for most that period mid 80s on the pitch at least.

Can't recall anything after of note, trained it back with OB in tow.

The trip 83-84 in the pissing rain was interesting with the 40 pre HYC dressers, again jumped off a 9am bus out of Hudders 1 mile out of Barnsley thinking this would be a real trick, was rounded up within minutes by vans of plod and put in the ground by 11am. Spent 3 hours keeping out of the rain in the refreshment hut gobbing in the soup, then so cold by half time drinking the fucker and paying for the privelege....

top day out but cant remember anything really kicking off..respect to barnsley boys though, one of the best mobs arond on there day.

Hudds away in 82 was my first away day ..... I went on the Yorkshire Traction 235, with the rest of the Barnsley Skins - LOFL - we met up with the rest of the Barnsley lads at the Spinners Arms ..... good times indeed ... BTW, by the end of that season, I'd swapped my dockers and flying jacket for adidas gazells, deer stalker and Fila BJ - as captured in print on the back page of the Barnsley Chronicle vs Boro rear leg raised raised about to deliver my nike wimbledon right foot, to the head of a fallen smoggie, under the sensasionalist headline "IS THIS YOUR SON" ......

I remember in the 80s waiting and waiting and waiting for Hudds to arrive .... then finally at about 3ish, a mob of 50 turned up on the train from Wakey .... seem to recall a reasonable but brief toe-to-toe ... and vividly remember a very game non-dresser ... tall but skinny lad with a large flat top, at the front, really up for it .... OB, we on to it in a flash, and we semi-skirmished all the way to the ground ....
For me Hudds away was always far more eventful ......
